April 15 South Africa (Vaal) form analysis (2025)

Race 1 (1,700m)

(3) IDEAL SUMMER had several re-opposing rivals well behind when finishing second over 1,600m in March. Not much improvement needed over this extended trip to open his account.

(4) BOLD ACTION and (5) ETHICAL are others likely to improve for this sterner test of stamina. They could make life difficult for the selection, from whom they receive a 3kg sex allowance.

(8) LADY NOIR is capable of winning as well.

Race 2 (1,000m)

(1) INSPECTOR JAMES and (2) ALESIAN BEAU appeal most of the raced runners and should play leading roles if building on improved recent performances.

A big threat to the principals will likely come from newcomers (9) FORCE PUBLIQUE and stablemate (12) WOENSDAG KOERANT, with riding arrangements suggesting the latter is preferred.

Race 3 (1,000m)

(1) DESERT CLOUD would not be winning out of turn. With improvement expected after a much-needed comeback outing, he gets the nod ahead of (10) QUIET WINTER, (8) CAPTAIN SELVIE and (9) EIGHT HATS. Those 2YO rivals would have come on appreciably from encouraging introductory outings and also receive 3kg from the selection.

Race 4 (1,200m)

(3) QUANTUM THEORY and (6) PASSAGE OF POWER are fit and in good form, so they should play leading roles.

The best-weighted (1) COUSIN CASEY is a versatile, high-class performer but returns from a lengthy layoff and is untried over this distance.

Distance-suited (5) DANTONFROMSANDTON ought to make his presence felt too.

Race 5 (1,800m)

(8) FUTURE KING and (9) INCLUSION fit that profile and should progress over this extended trip. The latter fared better in a recent 1,400m meeting between the pair but is 2.5kg worse off, and can turn the tables.

(1) GIFT OF ROYAL has the form and experience to acquit himself competitively but is vulnerable to unexposed likely improvers.

(3) BRIGHAM is another open to improvement stretching out to this distance with first-time blinkers fitted.

Race 6 (1,800m)

Minefield - include as many as the budget allows in exotic bets.

(2) LA MOOHAL will be competitive for Tyrone Zackey on the evidence of recent performances.

Last-start winner (6) KING'S EXPRESS ought to remain competitive as well under resultant penalties.

(15) TOTAL SURRENDER is another with a genuine winning chance.

However, it could pay to side with (13) MOUNT DARWIN after an eye-catching return.

Race 7 (1,400m)

The maturing (5) SONIC JET is unbeaten over this track and trip, so a four-point penalty for her last-start success may not be enough to prevent her from winning again.

Fellow 3YO filly (9) DESTINY OF FIRE is improving and likely to pose a threat in receipt of 2.5kg.

(7) POINTER acquitted herself well in a similar contest last time and should have a role to play on the evidence of that performance.

Returning (10) SCARS OF WAR is dangerous to discount.

Race 8 (1,400m)

(1) BLIND AMBITION was outrun late when second over 1,600m on her handicap debut, conceding 6kg to the winner. She will appreciate this shorter trip and could resume winning ways off a three-point higher mark.

Class-dropper (2) MOUNTAIN HIGH and fellow 3YO (6) ROAMING SPIRIT fit a similar profile and should have more to offer over this distance.

(10) SHEETS AND GOGGLES made no impression over a shorter trip last time. But she has the means to make her presence felt at this distance over which she won her maiden.

Race 9 (1,400m)

(5) PEARL IN HER CROWN improved to finish a game-in-defeat third over 1,800m in her second start after a layoff. On the evidence of that performance and front-running style, this shorter trip off a two-point lower mark in her peak outing should suit.

Familiar foe (7) SIGRID SWING is closely matched on the form of their meeting in a race won by Hierkommiebokkie earlier in 2025, so that rival should have a role to play.

The unexposed (8) SAIGON SUZIE and hard-knocker (10) MOCHA MACAROON are also capable of having a say.
